In terms of the geographical scope of investors' activity, the range of their activities has expanded considerably in recent years. 60% of business angels are already active nationwide (see figure for Spain), a percentage that has grown considerably compared to the situation before the pandemic. In 2018 they accounted for 49% and in 2019 only 39%.
The increase in the number of meetings and activities of online investment (like the one we organise every month on mentorDay (see+)) since the beginning of the pandemic may be the trigger for this tendency to look less to the geographical proximity of the investment. Also, seems to have driven the increasingly established trend of investor participation in international operations.
The geographical scope of investors' activity may vary depending on their strategy and personal preferences. Some business angels may focus on investments within their own country, while others may look for opportunities abroad. Some have a global focus and are willing to invest in startups around the world. Also, It is common for business angels to have a preference for investments in certain industries or technologies, which may limit their geographic reach. In general, the geographic scope of the investors will depend on your investment objectives and strategy.
