The Urban Dictionary defines this term as "the act of disappearing from others without notice or cancelling plans with little or no choice". Many people use it as a break-up strategy for dating or falling in love, but can it exist in the workplace? The answer is yes. The first thing is to understand why people make these spontaneous disappearances.. In a study called Ghosting in Emerging Adults' Romantic Relationships: The Digital Dissolution Disappearance Strategy, prepared by University of Alabama professor Leah LeFebvreThe researcher and several authors set out to understand why people use ghosting in their relationships. by asking a series of questions to a group of individuals who were familiar with this behaviour or had ever engaged in it in their lives.
According to the study, there are several factors why people apply this absolute communication cut-off. Two of them are convenience and security. The first is because it is an easier method of rupture, relative to others, and the second because the ghosting offers a safe way to dissolve a relationship, without putting the person doing it in danger from the one who is being victimised.
