Como saben, con o sin acuerdo, el Reino Unido saldrá definitivamente de la Unión Europea el 31 de diciembre de 2020. Una de las consecuencias directas en cuanto a la propiedad industrial es que a partir del 1 de enero de 2021, la marcas europeas que se registren ya no tendrán validez en el Reino Unido. Sin embargo, hasta esta fecha las solicitudes que se presenten, si incluirán todos los 27 países miembros y una vez registradas, esas marcas tendrán vigencia hasta el año 2030.

Applying for a trade mark in the UK is somewhat expensive (around 750.00 Euros for a single class), so if you are thinking of extending your trade mark protection to a country that is currently part of the European Union, it is best to apply before the end of the year.

In addition, es probable que la EUIPO (Oficina Europea de la Propiedad Intelectual) aumente las tasas de cara al próximo año.
