Making the entrepreneur's thinking tangible in mentoring

Making the entrepreneur's thinking tangible in mentoring

The mentor observes that the conversation with the entrepreneur is kept on a level mental and conceptual, without making the connection to the real life of the entrepreneur.

The entrepreneur speaks in general terms which are difficult to measure (e.g. I want to be happy, I want to feel more respected, I will listen more...).

Objectives:

To ground the conversation from the conceptual level to reality, applying what has been discerned in the theoretical reflection to the situation that the entrepreneur brings to the session.

Quantify what is difficult to specify in order to raise awareness.

Phases of mentoring:

It is very useful in the initial phase of Agreeing the Objective of the Session and also in the phase of Creating the Action Plan.

Recommended techniques and tools:

Although thinking about concepts also brings a lot of clarity, the entrepreneur needs to be able to translate his or her discoveries into reality, so that they come to life in reality and make it possible to articulate action plans.

Give an example:

  • "You talk about respect, what does that mean to you?
  • "You say you are going to listen more. Give me an example of what it means to listen more".
  • "You say there is a lack of efficiency in your work, can you give me an example?

 Scaling / scoring:

  • "On a scale of 1 to 10, how satisfied are you with your professional life now, and where do you want to go?
  • "On a scale of 1 to 10, how committed are you to this change?
  • "On a scale of 1 to 10, how confident are you at the moment?

Put a headline:

  • To an objective, an action, an emotion...: "You have told me about your current situation; if you could give it a title, what would it be", "What is happening to you, what title would you give it?

 Establish indicators of success (KPIs):

  • How will you know if you have achieved your goal?
  • At the end of the session, what do you want to have achieved?
  • How many CVs are you going to send then?
After the question and before think of yourself.
