Target, result and action orientation in mentoring for entrepreneurs

Mentoring is action.

As we have seen, the process is built on the basis of agreed clear objectives.

It is therefore necessary to keeping the process alive through monitoring, observing what fruits are being obtained and making it sustainable over time.

We now share tips to keep in mind from the beginning of the process:

Sustainability of the entrepreneur's actions:

Occasionally, we encounter situations that lead us to ask ourselves some questions about how to enhance the sustainability of the action:

  • Why do entrepreneurs leave the session excited, but then fail to follow through with their action plan?
  • Does mentoring really work?
  • On what does it depend for our entrepreneurs to achieve real transformation, real change?

However, it is in action that our limited condition and vulnerability is most evident.

It is therefore necessary to normalise the difficulty in implementing the action plan and as part of the change process.

Entrepreneurs are not lazy, they do not lack discipline, they are human. Need go through this process.

The attitudes that need to be present more than ever in the mentor are the following: non-judgement, respect, wonder, curiosity and inquiry, full presence, empathy.

The entrepreneur does his part and the process continues between sessions.

We can rely on the structure of the process and the session to accompany and follow up the action plans.

  • Promotes the realisation of an action plan:

Action needs to be aligned with the system, we need the other for change: coach/partners.

Build a stronger action plan by exploring the systems around the entrepreneur that can help him/her.

  • It encourages responsibility and commitment:

From keeping in mind the roles and responsibilities of everyone in the process, we have to inspire our entrepreneurs to set up challenging goals that will make them grow.

  • Monitoring and progress:

Once a consensus has been reached on a "action planit is important to do follow-up of agreed commitments in that session as well as in previous sessions.

  • Helping to implement the new habits and behaviours:

Accompanying our entrepreneurs in their progress, encouraging them and supporting them in difficult moments, always promoting their autonomy, without us taking the reins of the process but letting them take on this role.
