Sharing and collaboration. "If you tell me, I forget; if you teach me, I remember; if you involve me, I learn". Benjamin Franklin.

The Learning Pyramid is a tool used to identify different levels of information retention. In the case of entrepreneurs, MentorDay uses the pyramid to optimise their learning process and ensure effective retention of the knowledge acquired.

The Learning Pyramid is divided into six levels:

  1. Reading: This is the most basic level of the pyramid, which consists of reading and listening to information. Entrepreneurs can obtain information through books, articles, podcasts, conferences, among others.
  2. Active listening: at this level, entrepreneurs actively listen to experts and peers to acquire information and knowledge.
  3. Visualisation: Visualisation is an important learning tool for entrepreneurs. Visualisation can take the form of graphics, infographics, videos, presentations, among others.
  4. Practice: Practice is crucial for entrepreneurs' learning. Through practice, entrepreneurs can apply the knowledge acquired and develop practical skills for their business.
  5. Group discussion: Group discussion is an effective way for entrepreneurs to share their experiences and knowledge with their peers. Through group discussion, entrepreneurs can learn from the experiences of others and gain new perspectives on their business.
  6. Teaching others: Teaching others is the highest level of the Learning Pyramid. By teaching others, entrepreneurs consolidate their understanding of the information and knowledge acquired, enabling them to retain the information more effectively.

In general, entrepreneurs can optimise their learning by using a combination of these six levels of the Learning Pyramid. In doing so, they can ensure effective retention of acquired knowledge and develop practical skills for the success of their business.

mentorday applies the learning pyramid in its acceleration programme

The Learning Pyramid is a very useful tool to understand how our brain works to process information and how we can optimise our learning. This pyramid is made up of different levels of learning, from the most basic to the most complex, and at each level mentorDay uses different techniques and strategies for entrepreneurial learning. For entrepreneurs, the Learning Pyramid is a very important tool to understand what kind of learning is most effective for the success of your business. Et the bottom of the pyramid are the more basic methods of learning, such as reading and listening, while at the top are the more complex methods, such as practical application and teaching others.

At mentorDay, we apply the Learning Pyramid in our acceleration programme to ensure that entrepreneurs acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for the success of their business. We start with the most basic levels, such as reading and attending talks and conferences, and then move on to more advanced levels, such as learning by doing through real cases and teaching other entrepreneurs. In this way, entrepreneurs can have a more complete and effective learning experience, and be prepared to face the challenges that arise on the road to the creation and consolidation of their business.

Pyramid of learning

The pyramid is divided into different levels, each representing a specific learning method, and is organised according to its ability to help the learner retain information. The levels of the Learning Pyramid, from most to least effective, are as follows:

  1. Practical teaching (Learning by Doing ver+ TIP): the most effective form of learning, which involves putting acquired knowledge into practice in order to consolidate it and learn from mistakes.
  2. Teach Others: teaching others what you have learned is an effective way of consolidating information.
  3. Group learning (Group Discussion, see+ TIP group mentoring): Discussing concepts learned in a group can help to consolidate and deepen understanding.
  4. Demonstration: seeing how concepts are applied in practice can be an effective way to learn them.
  5. Audiovisual (Audiovisual): using audiovisual media such as videos or presentations can be useful to help retain information.
  6. Reading: Reading can be useful for acquiring information, but it is often not the most effective way of retaining it.
  7. Lectures: Lectures can be useful for acquiring information, but they are often not the most effective way of retaining it.

Hierarchical order of the different levels of learning

Five categories are established, ranging from the most basic and concrete levels to the most abstract and complex. These levels are:

  1. Experiential learning: refers to learning based on practical experience, experimentation and trial and error.
  2. Reflective learning: it is a matter of reflecting on experiences and analysing them in order to draw conclusions and learnings.
  3. Theoretical learning: involves the acquisition of theoretical knowledge, basic concepts and principles.
  4. Symbolic learning: refers to the learning of symbols, images and metaphors.
  5. Creative learning: this level involves the use of creativity and imagination to solve problems and generate new ideas.

For entrepreneurs, the application of the learning pyramid can be very useful in their training and development process, as it allows them to structure and plan their learning effectively, focusing first on the most basic levels and moving on to the more complex ones. In addition, This learning methodology can help them acquire knowledge and skills more quickly and effectively, which can have a positive impact on the success of their business.
