Availability bias
A mental mechanism as primary as it is effective in selling. What is scarce arouses interest, firstly because many others have already acquired it and, secondly, because it awakens the feeling of a unique opportunity to get hold of it. The sum of the two leads to quick decisions, without considering other possibilities.
How to combat it:
In this case it is particularly important to understand that the bias has been put to work. Having understood that this is the case, it is necessary to stop and reflect, to ask oneself what is wanted and what will happen if it is not achieved: There are almost always alternatives.
Discovering and becoming aware of the many biases that we entrepreneurs have is only the first step... because, The tricky thing is to realise each time one of them appears. It's not easy, but sometimes it is a good idea to put our brains in "debugging mode", and observe ourselves dispassionately, as if we were a third party... or better yet, ask someone else to do it for us and "keep an eye on us". (e.g. a mentor or a partner/co-founder).
Improve as entrepreneurs and being aware of our limitations when judging something requires a huge dose of humility, self-criticism and a bit of ability to laugh at oneself and realise what a lousy interpretation of reality we sometimes make.
Now that you are clear about the availability bias, reflect and act.
