Swiss psychiatrists Philippe Rothlin y Peter R. Werder identified in 2007 a new occupational syndrome they called boreout, which could be translated as extreme boredom. 

This phenomenon occurs when there is a dangerous combination of three elements:

  • Boredom of work.
  • Low requirements by superiors.
  • Disinterest due to the absence of tasks.  

The main consequences are that the individual feels dissatisfied, desperate and uninterested. Inaction in the workplace becomes a source of stress.

Among the causes that he identifies in this article are: the lack of planning (+), duplication of functions in other positions, hoarding of the most motivating tasks by superiors or other colleagues, tasks that are very difficult to perform. routine, on qualification for the work he/she performs or lack of internal promotionamong others.
