STRESS MANAGEMENT FOR ENTREPRENEURS

You may have heard the phrases "chase your dreams", "strive for your goals" and countless motivational videos and writings that suggest you give 100% of your energy and even hold up great athletes as examples of people who give their all. Let me tell you that although all this is very stimulating, the best athletes eat and rest not only in body but also in soul and this is because we are not machines. But it is that even machines need to stop to recover.
As entrepreneurs we spend a large part of our time making decisions, thinking about every step we take because we are building everything from scratch and we need to have a clear mind and put the right emotion into each situation.
I share here a formula that has given me excellent results when undertaking a burning out:
- Discipline and habits: This is nothing new, but respecting our body's time to go to sleep, to eat, and above all to rest and try to disconnect.
- Working hours and a place of work: control communications, set a timetable for reading/sending messages and emails. Establish a place to work and a place to rest and be strict with this.
- Self-awareness: that is, to discover and try to apply a metric system of what makes us angry, what makes us sad, what makes us happy, what relaxes us and so on with anything that can affect us emotionally.
- Self-knowledge: will give us the power to know what stressful situations we may face during the day and to decide if it is possible, to postpone an activity that may overwhelm us. One technique that has worked well for me is to establish that I can handle 5 stressful situations a day, at which point it is time to rest even if there is still the whole day ahead of me.
Finally, we must be aware that Like any elite athlete, we need to make rest and physical/mental recovery part of our portfolio of tools or soft skills.
