Keys to focus the entrepreneur's CHALLENGE in the mentoring session

The mentor must CHALLENGE the entrepreneur, but .... How to make your entrepreneur focus on a specific challenge?

We must dedicate attention and focus to this competence, Whether the entrepreneur has many challenges, (in which case we must be able to focus on a specific one), or whether the entrepreneur has difficulties in making explicit or finding a truly consistent challenge.

First, We will accompany you on this enquiry until a challenge is found.

Second, we must be able toputting our mentoring skills into action to connect the entrepreneur with his or her challenge.

Curiosity and wonder. Sometimes when faced with questions such as "What topic are you bringing to this session today? What do you want to work on? We run the risk of sticking strictly to the entrepreneur's answer. We have to challenging language and logic and not just take the first answer that the entrepreneur gives us.

Sometimes, it is necessary to dig deeper, to go further, asking out of genuine curiositypull the thread to find something bigger that is hidden under a technical challenge, seemingly simple and rational.

Connecting the entrepreneur with the importance of the issue. Why is this important to you?

This simple question sometimes hides a very powerful energy. It is the SENTIDOThe engine that drives us to mobilise, the deep connection with our yearnings. By closing the circle. Inquiring into what makes sense to the entrepreneur connects him or her to a very deep level and increases the level of awareness and responsibility in the face of the challenge.

Identify and confirm the challenge for the session (lower the challenge to something concrete to work on during the session, clarifying what the entrepreneur intends to achieve in this particular session).

There are questions that help us to ground ourselves:

  • "Where is the real challenge for you?
  • "If it were a headline, what would your challenge be?
  • "What specifically would you like to leave this session with?
  • "If it was the best session of your life, what concrete result would you get?

Establish indicators of success. It is a valuable resource for the entrepreneur to witness progress and commit to a specific indicator.

  • "How will you know that you've made it?
  • "If you had to rate the level from 1 to 10 that you want to reach... what would it be?
  • "What is your starting mark?

Now that you are clear on the importance of setting a challenge and how to do it, reflect:

  • What challenges have I set in the past and what metrics did you use to analyse their achievement?
After the question and before think of yourself.
