MENTOR AND COACH CODE OF ETHICS
The mentor/coach accreditation offered by mentorDay requires the reading and signing of the mentorDay Code of Ethics and Ethics as a fundamental requirement for accreditation. Each new mentor of mentorDay has to read and sign the code of ethics and ethics approved by the leading associations around the world.
In the mentoring contract to be signed between the mentor and the entrepreneur and mentorDay, an express mention is made that the mentor has read and agrees to comply with the code of ethics and deontology.
THERE ARE TWO MODELS
There are codes of ethics and professional conduct for mentors and coaches in general, which set out principles and guidelines for the ethical performance of their work.
Some of the most recognised codes of ethics for mentors and coaches are the International Coach Federation (ICF) Code of Ethics and the European Mentoring & Coaching Council (EMCC) Code of Ethics. These codes focus on principles such as confidentiality, respect for clients, professional integrity and continuous development of skills and competencies.
At mentorDay we use a code of ethics that combines the advantages of both models, adapting them to the particularities of mentoring entrepreneurs. The model is provided to each student enrolled in the mentoring programme.
THE AIM OF THE CODE OF ETHICS IS TWOFOLD:
The aim of the code of ethics is to establish a set of ethical rules and standards of conduct to be followed by mentors, in order to protect the interests and rights of entrepreneurs, ensure the quality of the service provided and promote responsible practice consistent with the values and principles of the profession.
- Protect mentors from unjustified complaints about their professional conduct.
- Promote accountability of mentors for ethical misconduct in order to protect the reputation of the mentoring profession.
Make things very clear before we start, to generate the right expectations, the commitments to be fulfilled and how we are going to finish.
CONFIDENTIALITY:
It is clear but it has its limits... when a person wants to harm himself, the law can demand sharing, if we know that there is something illegal.
CONFLICT OF INTEREST:
Always act in the best interest of the entrepreneur and if this is lost....
EXAMPLE
You start the mentoring relationship, and you as a mentor are in the business of making websites and you see that the entrepreneur needs it, but you can't take advantage of the trust to sell your services...you can accept the new role but you have to talk about it!
Statutory duties and obligations, mentorDay has liability insurance in case someone files a lawsuit.

MENTORING ETHICS CASE STUDY
A company hires you as a mentor and tells you that Enrique, one of the founders of the company you are assigned to, needs to work on communication, especially on communication with his subordinates, but that they don't want to tell him directly, that they have sold him the mentoring process as something that will help him to develop, and they want you to bring up the issue of whether he would be interested in working on communication with his subordinates. They have sold him the mentoring process as something that will help him to develop, and they want you to bring up the issue of whether he would not be interested in working on communication with his subordinates. How should you handle the situation?
SOLUTION:
We cannot deceive our entrepreneur, we have to try to get the company to talk about it before our first session. We have to benefit our entrepreneur, even if someone else is paying us. We have to be brave and talk about it with the company.
CASE STUDY OF AN ENTREPRENEUR MENTOR WISHING TO COMPLY WITH THE CODE OF ETHICS
Juan is a mentor to entrepreneurs with several years of experience and has decided to commit to the Code of Ethics of the International Coach Federation (ICF) in all his interactions with his mentees.
Juan has a meeting scheduled with one of his mentees, Ana, to discuss the business plan for his new company. Before the meeting, Juan reviews the ICF Code of Ethics and ensures that he is complying with each point of the code in his relationship with Ana.
During the meeting, Juan makes sure to respect Ana's confidentiality and maintain her privacy. In addition, he uses coaching techniques to encourage Ana's autonomous decision-making and does not impose his own opinion or interests. He also ensures that there is clear agreement on the responsibilities of both partners during the coaching process, and sets realistic expectations for Ana's progress and success in the business.
At the end of the session, Juan asks Ana for feedback and asks if he has met the ethical and deontological standards set by the ICF. Ana confirms that Juan has been an exceptional mentor and has met all the ethical and deontological requirements of the ICF Code of Ethics.
Juan is satisfied that he has fulfilled his commitment to follow the ICF Code of Ethics in his mentoring practice and pledges to continue to respect ethical and deontological standards in all his interactions with his mentees.

Welcome to the code, I pledge to abide by it to the best of my knowledge and ability.
Very interesting and important code of ethics. Courageous and honest to boot. I think it tries to safeguard the integrity of both parties, the mentor and the entrepreneur.
